Sunday 12th June – Sheep Show

As most local people know the Todmorden Agricultural Society has had to move out of the town to hold events in recent years because of concerns about the park and its flood alleviation system. They have since been looking for a place to return to in the town with a smaller-scale event.

Bearing in mind our ‘Green Shoots’ news piece, we have consented to try a small show event (sheep only) on Sunday 12th June. This is of course prior to full grass restoration works beginning on the sports field. So, for us, it is a good opportunity to see any potential issues from such a show.

It’s also a great opportunity to engage with our farming community who are a part of this town’s rich heritage and industry. They work long hours, many 365 days a year, in all weather to produce food and goods for our tables. Who wouldn’t want to give them one great day a year to show us what they are so proud to produce with their skills, life learned knowledge and good animal husbandry?

The show will, as we said, be a small sheep show event and whilst it is not advertised as a public event you would be welcome to pop in and chat with the shepherds. Parking will be limited, so making it part of a walk on the day would be better than driving of course! Food and refreshment will be available.

Saturday 16th July – PAWS Dog Show & Fun Day

We are really looking forward to inviting PAWS – Pennine Animal Welfare Society – back after the 2-year break. This is always a fun day out for the family.

We are waiting for more details of the event and the activities so please check back here in June for an update.

Riverside Centre | Outdoor Activity Centre in Walsden, Todmorden

Welcome to The Riverside Centre

We are located on the outskirts of Todmorden at the gateway to the Calder Valley, in West Yorkshire. But many locals will tell you we breathe Lancashire air!

Just 200 meters from the border we currently offer facilities for groups such as scouts and schools. And our direct access to the adjacent Rochdale canal provides opportunities for Kayaking and other water-based activities.

During recent times we have provided a hub for the annual boundary walk, Todmorden Agricultural Show, a charity dog show and an ‘ultra’ running base.

Following news received in late April 2025 that our Town Deal funding had been withdrawn, this has obviously had a devastating impact on our plans for development. Please bear with us whilst we take some time to consider our options. In the meantime, you can find more details about the situation on our Latest News Page.

A New Era & New Opportunities

We are a facility about to undergo some amazing changes and want to share that with you on this website.

As you will discover we have a transformational opportunity to provide many more facilities and activities for our wider and diverse community in the next few years.

Like most organisations, social enterprises and businesses we were restricted in our growth potential by COVID and its legacy of economic and social challenges.

We survived these challenges and used the period to reassess the potential for post-pandemic activities and long-term recovery opportunities for the community.

Our funding bid successes will now see us begin the transformation in 2024/25.
